This study matters because it upgrades the program from a collection of interesting findings into an explicit adaptation model.

The previous studies already showed:

- adaptation was real
- later running specialization intensified
- turnover was preserved more successfully than stride expression
- burden improved only partially

What this study adds is a direct answer to a broader scientific question:

`Was the system becoming more normal, or becoming more selective?`

The corrected program supports the second interpretation more strongly.

That does not mean the system failed.
It means success appears to have depended on selectivity:

## What this sets up next

This study makes later follow-up questions more meaningful:

- is ecological narrowing itself part of a compensation phenotype?
- is cadence the preserved control variable while stride becomes the sacrificed expression variable?
- does internal burden rise specifically when the system is forced outside its narrowed successful context?

Those are now follow-up questions, not speculative starting points.
